A call for action and solidarity with our farmers and urban poor communities

Together let’s keep our interconnected system of farmers, collaborators, and communities thriving—especially at this time of crisis.

How to Get Involved:

A small pledge goes a long way:

  • PhP500 to feed 3 families
  • PhP750 to feed 5 families
  • PhP1000 to feed 6 families

 Our Farmers

We depend on farmers for the food we eat everyday. Now they are among the hardest-hit following the COVID-19 crisis. Since the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, farmers in rural areas have been unable to deliver and sell their fresh produce, severely affecting their income, livelihood and well-being, and cutting vital links in the peasant food web that feeds us.

Even so, our smallholder farmers and small-scale producers at the frontlines are in solidarity with the most food-insecure among us, the poor communities, at this time of crisis. We believe in taking action that shares this sense of solidarity. Lingap Maralita’s initiative directly sources fresh produce (vegetables, grains, fruits) from our frontline farmers, who are working to supply this to the urban poor.

Our Collaborators

We can create the change we want to see. We believe it is possible to feed everyone in a way that is holistic: one that nourishes a strong, healthy immune system and importantly advocates for social justice for our farmers. Subsistence on processed food products is not enough, and good food means using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and preparing them with compassion and care. At the same time, we must actively create a food system that is free from exploitation, safe and available to all, environmentally responsible, and socially inclusive.

Our Communities

We believe food must be available for all. The COVID-19 crisis has further upended the needs of urban poor communities, who are now being neglected and getting hungrier.

Through Lingap Maralita, we are calling for action and solidarity, and advocate for their rights more than ever. Largely invisible, they are actually the ones who help our society run smoothly. Now they need us.

Our food distribution programs will be reaching urban poor communities throughout Metro Manila—many of which have already been at risk of housing displacement and marginalization. Our feeding programs will start with barangays in Camarin, North Caloocan (April 3) and in Payatas, Quezon City (April 10).
